Besides the course work itself, here’s one of the main things I’ve learned from being in college. Being that I’m an individual that has always been an over achiever, I often came across issues with balancing time. When I first arrived at Saint Augustine’s college I didn’t know what to expect because I was so excited to be in college. I began learning new ways to make time to do everything I wanted to do and in each course I took I found things that I was more interested in than I was before.
Having strict deadlines and an understanding of what my teachers expected from me as a student contributed to my success in my classes. I started out as a psychology major at Saint Augustine’s College, but now I am a Broad Casting Communications Major with a minor in psychology. I love every aspect of communications from writing to the hands on behind the scenes work. Having the time to broaden my horizon and achieve my goals, I now know that I have many talents and skills that I want to incorporate in my everyday life when I pursue my successful career.
When I see black African Americans like Oprah, Monique, and Tyra Banks with their own television shows, it helps me realize that maybe if I work hard enough or get the right opportunity I can also one day have my own show named after me. I have a lot of talent and seeing these intelligent women with similar talents is a motivation for me not only to get my education but make sure I set goals and follow through. Psychology will help me as well because I want to start an organization where I can help young girls with low self esteems to love who they are no matter what, as well as teach young women to have pride and confidence no matter what problems they face in life. I have someone that reminds me and I believe every young girl should have someone to let them know there beautiful and can achieve anything. Being in college has helped me to understand that “Time is of the essence so don’t waste it, prioritize your time well, so that when the right time comes, you can use it wisely.” Sakeeda Freeman
